Microsoft’s April 2025 Power Platform update delivers a strong set of enhancements that enhance productivity, governance, and maker and developer experience overall. Whether you’re building apps, managing environments, or safeguarding data, there’s something for everyone in this release.
1. Enhanced Undo/Redo Feature
Power Apps Studio now has a much enhanced Undo/Redo experience, intended to provide creators with greater control and confidence while creating apps. Some of the key improvements include:
- Action Descriptions: Each action that can be undone or redone now has a dedicated description, and users know what will be affected.
- Enhanced Capacity: You can now undo 100 steps, allowing greater experimentation and exploration.
- Enhanced Reliability: The new system is on sturdier ground, minimizing errors and surprise behavior—particularly for operations that never had undo capabilities, such as database modifications.
This rollout is being rolled out in phases and is the first step towards the enablement of coauthoring undo/redo in the future.
2. Redesigned Plan Designer Experiences
The Power Apps Plan Designer has been redesigned so that creators can move from concept to solution more quickly through a Copilot-driven, AI-powered experience. You can describe your business requirements in natural language, and the tool will build a fully formed Power Platform solution, such as apps, data tables, and flows, in a intelligent way.
Key Features:
- Natural Language Input: Begin by declaring your situation (e.g., “Employees must request leave for manager approval”).
- AI Agents
-
- Requirements Agent: Identifies user stories and roles.
- Data Agent: Suggests Dataverse tables and relationships.
- Solution Agent: Assembles the entire solution with flows and apps.
- Step-by-Step Instructions: Takes the user through role, data, and app experience definition.
- Built-In Documentation: Generates a plan document automatically with all solution details.
Availability:
Plan Designer is currently in preview and is available by activating the “Try the new Power Apps experience” switch on the Power Apps home page.
3. Personalize Copilot Chat in Apps
Power Apps now enables creators to customize Copilot chat in stand-alone model-driven apps using Microsoft Copilot Studio. This preview feature allows businesses to customize the Copilot experience by adding custom topics, knowledge sources, and business logic that are specific to their business needs.
Key Highlights:
- Custom Agents: Each application has a proprietary Copilot agent that can be configured independently.
- Copilot Studio Integration: Open your app in edit mode, and configure and deploy your Copilot agent in Copilot Studio.
This customization enables companies to offer more informative, pertinent, and beneficial AI experiences in their applications.
4. Actions Pane in Visual Studio Code
Microsoft has introduced a mighty new Actions Pane for Power Pages in Visual Studio Code Desktop. The feature streamlines site management by offering context-specific actions within the editor itself—no more switching between tools or entering CLI commands.
Key Capabilities:
- For Active Sites: Preview site, upload updates, download content, view site information, open in Power Pages Studio, or reveal in File Explorer.
- For Inactive Sites: Analyze site management and consider site-level metadata like website ID and data model version.
- For Local Sites: Upload settings to your environment or open the local folder directly.
This integration streamlines workflows, boosts productivity, and provides a more complete development experience—all in a single location in VS Code
5. Git Integration is Now General Available
Microsoft has now made Git Integration for Power Platform generally available, transforming the way makers and developers work together with source control. The feature allows apps, agents, flows, and other solution items to be synchronised seamlessly with Git repositories, streamlining development and deployment.
Key Highlights:
- Disconnect & Reconnect: Just disconnect your environment from Git and reconnect with another.
- Large & Existing Solutions Support: No longer size-limited—connect existing solutions without limit.
- Public APIs: Utilize Dataverse APIs to automate Git activities.
- Support for expanded objects: All parts of the solution are supported, more being supported.
- Improved UX: Uniting Git integration across maker portals, including Copilot Studio, with better usability and visibility of user changes.
- Geo Availability: All public geos, with sovereign cloud availability to be added.
This integration replaces old experimental Git setup and provides the recommended standard today for source control management for Power Apps. It also supports pa.yaml files for clean, readable version tracking—no noisy diffs.
6. Power Platform Dataverse – Enable Audit Settings (General Availability)
Dataverse Audit Settings are now available worldwide through the Power Platform Security & Compliance Center. The feature allows administrators to:
- Provide auditing at the column, table, and environment level.
- Track record modifications, such as create, update, delete, and access events.
- View audit logs in the Audit History tab or retrieve them via API.
Audit logs help organisations meet compliance, security, and governance requirements by providing them with an audit trail of who changed what, when, and how. Logs are stored in Dataverse and can be stored based on configurable policies.
7. The New Power Platform Admin Center
Microsoft also rolled out a new Power Platform Admin Center that simplifies environment and tenant management for administrators. The new experience offers:
Key Developments:
- Streamlined Navigation: Simplified layout and logical menu design allow you to locate and get to resources more quickly.
- Enhanced performance: Smoother loading and more responsive feedback.
- Enhanced Usability: Enhanced option grouping and more intuitive labels improve the overall admin experience.
Admins can also control environments, view analytics, create policies, and monitor use more effectively—all from one, unified interface.
